Mitron - Film Review by TeamKritikaKamra
(Tried to be unbiased)
Adulthood is the most misunderstood times of one’s life!
There are daily struggles, innumerable questions, annoying suggestions, nagging
people and uncontrollable desire to break free. You graduate, turn around and a huge question
mark is hanging from above your head, staring at you!! Now what? It feels as
if the rest of your life has come knocking!! Parents want to know what you are going to do with your life? Relatives want to know when you are getting married?
Friends want to know where and when to party? Everybody wants to know when you’ll
start making money. And you start to wonder if you’re even capable of doing
anything.
‘Mitron’ directed by Nitin Kakkar, brings to light these
struggles of adulthood, in very light-hearted, relatable and rather comic way.
The film takes you on a journey inside Jai (Jacky Bhagnani) and Avni (Kritika
Kamra)’s lives, their individual struggles, heartbreaks and how eventually
their lives connect! Jai is a graduated engineer, by force of course and Avni
is an ambitious MBA graduate, by will! Both do not have the most amiable
relationship with their Father, but have supportive Mother! [Which by the way, is the story of every
other household; disappointed fathers and an empathetic mother.]
According to Jai’s father he is Lazy, good for nothing, an
idiot and a hopeless failure. Jai, however has his heart set on being a ‘Chef’
but is too ‘afraid’ of his father to pursue it. [You
know what they say, if your heart is not in it, you will never win it! That’s
the problem with Jai! His father’s money was in his degree, but Jai’s heart was
not!] Which leads him along
with his best friends, Raunak (Pratik Gandhi) and Deepu (Shivam Parekh) to look
for easy ways to make money!! Oh our YouTube raised and inspired generation! Then
one fine day ‘pandit ji’ says get him married, he’ll start producing money!
Avni has just completed her MBA and now according to her
father, is all set to get married. [He wanted a
boy but had a girl, and what can a girl give him? Nothing! So, let’s get her
married quickly!] Her father arranges a ‘Rishta’ meeting at their
house. Avni respects her father therefore agrees to meet the family he has
invited!
Then fate plays its card and after a series of misunderstood
directions and rather comic turn of events and conversations, Jai and Avni’s
worlds collide!
Story, Writing, Editing
& Screenplay
Narration of the story was clean and face
paced. 1st half delivered an easy breezy comic flow whereas the 2nd
was laden with emotions and triumphs! The shift between present and the past,
was very nicely done! The writing was Beautiful and Simple! Maybe, a little too
simple at times! The characters and the households were sketched closest to
reality, their emotions were believable and struggles were relatable. The
reason of them starting a business together was very natural and believable;
they both had their own selfish reasons, which is oh so real! Let’s face it, don’t we all do things for
our own selfish reasons?!
However, it did have its flaws! The scene between Jai and
Avni’s father, though executed beautifully, was a bit unrealistic. Followed
immediately after that was Avni’s scene with Jai’s family. Which not only
seemed forced but also looses its impact. It almost seemed like she was
returning a favor! Which may have been the intention but it was not the most
impressive part! It’s sad that two such important scenes and almost turning
points of the film were not handled better! Individually the scenes were
amazing and important and deserved to be highlighted! If both scenes happened
at different points in the movie, or were not placed right after the other,
would have delivered the desired impact.
Also, the scene between Avni and her own father should have
been extended and shown after Jai enlightened her father! Again, a very
important scene but mishandled!! Not sure who to blame!
Direction:
Nitin Kakkar’s direction was immaculate! The way he has
captured moments, emotions and little nuances, it shows he knows his game! The
scenes between friends were captured and displayed beautifully. When it came to
showing expressions on people faces, Nitin’s direction worked wonders!
The scene where Jai and Avni learn that they have just met due to misunderstanding, their expressions were so on point and portrayed exactly so!
Scenes like these, cannot be directed, they’re just captured!
The scene where Jai and Avni learn that they have just met due to misunderstanding, their expressions were so on point and portrayed exactly so!
When Avni learns of Jai's engagement - the emotional
display on her face was absolutely heartbreaking and yet again captured so
tactfully!
Scenes like these, cannot be directed, they’re just captured!

Performances:
Kritika Kamra
Have you ever seen a butterfly floating; effortless, flowy
and just so delicate?! Watching Kritika Kamra transform into and deliver Avni
was just like that! Effortless, Contained, Delicate but Impactful! Kritika
looked stunning and mesmerizing! There was a soft and almost fragile vibe to
her!! This film has given her ample opportunity to emote through eyes and
expressions and she has managed to do it impactfully. She emotes well, delivers
her dialogues very eloquently and possess a very strong screen presence. You
cannot help but notice her when she’s in a scene with other people! However,
Avni reminded me of a mix between her Arohi, Ananya & Dr. Nidhi! This
character almost seemed like home ground for Kritika and I would love to see
her break away from this mold! I am, hoping and praying that she is given a
fair chance in Bollywood to display her talent fully! There’s so much potential
in her that is unexplored and unexploited! This film marks her debut in
Bollywood and what better way to do so than to deliver a promising performance!
PS: The final Scene was impeccable! She looked breathtaking and her acting was phenomenal! Also, she shared great chemistry with Pratiek! Their scenes, though beautiful, were very few and left a lot to be desired! Wish there was more of him in the film! He left more impact on the film in a short while than some of the other characters! Someone, please cast them together!!

Jacky Bhagnani
Jacky’s Jai was real, believable and managed to garner
sympathy! His portrayal of Jai made me believe that characters like Jai exist
in real life! However, at times the laziness and the ‘Good for nothing’ acting
came across as…well, Acting! But for the most part Jacky delivers a well
balanced and a believable performance. He too looked very dapper in the final
scene!
Pratik Gandhi and Shivam Parekh
Raunak and Deepu were an absolute delight to watch! These
two guys may prove to be the dark horses. Their one liners, their portrayal of
nonchalant characters, and their comic timing was all noteworthy! There was
absolutely nothing about their portrayals of their character, that was out of
line. Often the attention is on the main actors and it is easy for the
supporting characters to get sidelined or be ignored. But these two stood their
own ground! Bravo!
Mohan Kapur, ‘frankly speaking’ was fun to watch! Neeraj Sood is an amazing actor and
always does justice to his roles! Sunil
Sinha was also impactful!
Overall – The
movie is a desirable combination of Comedy, Emotions, Triumphs, Hopes and
little bit of Love, backed up with very strong performances. It beautifully displays a journey of young people over coming fear and winning at life by following their heart!! It also portrays no matter how strict or not so friendly your parents are, they always want your happiness! I just wish the
marketing had been better and the movie was promoted more! This film deserved
to be watched!! People were laughing out loud during in the theatre and that to
me is a sign of a feel good, paisa visool kind of movie!
Also, a very special mention to the presentation of the
food!!! The way making of the food was filmed, I almost whistled! It was
incredible and I came out of the theatre feeling hungry!
I have two BIG
questions, if anybody can answer!
Who in the world puts two, not one, two major chartbuster
songs at the end! People leave as soon as the last scene is over! For the love
of God, why???
Also, who ask these kinds of personal questions and
facilitate personal conversations on one of the most tuned into Radio, on air!?
